LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga (WSAV) - The state of Georgia has seen record-breaking early voting numbers with more than a million ballots already cast. News 3 spoke to voters in Liberty County about their drive to early vote for the 2024 presidential election. Lamonica Jenkins said the early voting numbers are a great sign. "The turnout, you know, is always important,” she said. “Sometimes you get the same cycle of people voting. But to know that more and more people are coming out, that’s pretty awesome.” She told News 3 it’s a matter of making a difference and having her voice heard. On Monday, the county sat at over 7,400 in-person votes and more than 500 absentee ballots. "Oh, we've surpassed 2020,” Walthour said. “Yes, 2020. We only had half of that amount and that was for the whole entire election. So, you can imagine what it's going to be on Election Day.” In the months leading up to the early voting period, Walthour told News 3 they have seen an increase in voter registration. "We've increased over 2,000,” she explained. “So, we're at 46,000 now. That right there is amazing to me because that means that people are interested, they're engaged, and they want to make their choice known.” It was positive news for early voter, Doris Pillow. "My forefathers and my history allows me to have this right,” Pillow said. “I feel like I need to exercise it every chance I get. Everybody needs to vote. Everybody needs to vote” Early voting is taking place at the Liberty County Community Complex and the Voter Registration and Elections Office, Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
