Man accused of 2021 murder in New Bedford pleads guilty

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A man accused of murdering a 23-year-old back in 2021 in New Bedford plead guilty yesterday in Fall River River Superior Court.
62-year-old Alphanso Richards was accused of shooting Naurik Michel-Brown, his son-in-law on Ashley Blvd right in front of his daughter and three children.
The defendant also received an eight-to-ten-year state prison sentence concurrent for an attempted assault and battery with a firearm of his daughter, according to the Bristol County District Attorney.
According to a release, in August of 2021, Michel-Brown, along with his wife and three children, drove to Car Tunes on Ashley Boulevard to check on a vehicle.
According to the District Attorney, Richards’ daughter fled to a nearby gas station to call 911, as she heard additional gunshots fired in her direction.
Richards fled to Virginia where he was later arrested.
Richard’s trial was set to start Monday, but he plead guilty to his charges
Richards was sentenced to 19 1/2 years with the possibility of parole.
