'AskaLawyer' sessions held at Jefferson Parish libraries throughout October

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Louisiana residents in need of legal advice are invited to participate in the annual Lawyers in Libraries program happening in October.
The program is done in partnership with the Louisiana Bar Association, the State Library of Louisiana and the Louisiana Library Association.
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center opens new clinic in Metairie
From Oct. 22 to Oct. 26, the two-hour "Ask-a-Lawyer" sessions, citizens to have one-on-one conversations with legal professionals who can guide them toward needed resources on topics of bankruptcy, collection matters, custody, divorce, evictions, FEMA or disaster benefits, food stamps, foreclosures, housing Medicaid, Social Security, SSI/SSDI, successions, taxes and wills.

Library officials said the partnership is critical with nearly 20% of Louisiana's population living below the federal line. The program gives individuals, who can't afford a lawyer, access to free legal aid.
Jefferson Parish sees record breaking first day early voting participation
The sessions are free and on a first-come, first-served basis. No registration is needed.
