INDIANAPOLIS -- Two teens were arrested in relation to an armed carjacking and robbery on the near north side of Indianapolis on Sunday evening, according to a post on social media from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The department said that 18-year-old Leandrew Beasley and 19-year-old Derrick Johnson were both preliminary charged with armed robbery and resisting law enforcement after the reported incident on Sunday evening. The post read that at around 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of N Alabama Street on a report of an armed robbery and carjacking. When officers arrived, officials said that four armed and masked suspects held a person at gunpoint and took some of their belongings, including a cell phone and wallet. Court documents state that the four individuals, two of whom were identified as Beasley and Johnson, had automatic weapons. The victim told police that the individuals carjacked him as he was pulling into his garage. The four suspects then reportedly fled in the person's vehicle, identified by police as a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The post read that after the vehicle was located, officers attempted a felony traffic stop. The vehicle reportedly did not stop, causing a "brief... pursuit." During the pursuit, the court documents said that the Jeep reached speeds of more than 100 mph during the chase. The Jeep eventually hit an incline in the roadway near the intersection of E 19th St. and N Euclid Ave. which caused the driver to lose control of the Jeep. Johnson and Beasley, two alleged members of the group, were located and placed under arrest, the post read. Johnson was located after officers chased him for around 160 yards. Beasley was located after he was reportedly hiding in a tree. The two others who were involved were not located. Detectives recovered the vehicle owner's items that had reportedly been taken during the robbery, as well as two handguns and one rifle.
