HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Get ready for a spine-chilling celebration! Honolulu Horror Nights is set to host a special queer Halloween event just in time for Halloween. Get Hawaii's latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You “I got into the horror genre as a little kid,” Hobaica said. “I would sneakily watch horror films, and my parents would catch me. I developed a passion for it at a young age, and that grew into hosting screenings here on Oahu.” Over the past year and a half, Hobaica has transformed his passion into a nonprofit organization that brings horror film screenings and themed events to the community. A unique experience The upcoming event promises a night filled with entertainment and community. “Honolulu Horror Nights is a local nonprofit organization where we show different horror films in a bar setting,” Hobaica explained. “It’s a very community-oriented, queer-affirming space.” Attendees can expect snacks, drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere filled with local artists and vendors. On Oct. 26, the event will be especially significant, coinciding with Pride Month in Hawaiʻi. “We wanted to create a very queer, affirming, safe space for Halloween lovers,” Hobaica said. The celebration will unfold in two parts: a film screening and a lively dance party. Event details The screening and dance party are taking place on Oct. 26 at Hawaiian Brian's. The first portion of the event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a French dance horror film screening, trivia games and booths from local organizations sharing goodies and resources. “There will be popcorn and snacks, and a lot of local artists and performers will showcase their talents,” Hobaica added. After a 30-minute break, the second part of the event will kick off, transforming into a queer Halloween rave from 6 p.m. all the way to 1:30 a.m. This segment will feature local DJs and performers, all celebrating queer Pacific culture. “It’s going to be the place to be for queer people on Halloween weekend,” Hobaica promised. The party will continue through the evening to offer a full night of fun. Ticket information Ticket prices for the event range from $10 to $20, depending on a few factors. Hobaica emphasized the importance of inclusivity, especially for local Pasifika individuals and those identifying as māhū. “We want to make it a very accessible space,” he said. To encourage participation, half-price tickets will be available for those who identify as māhū or under the umbrella of MVPFAFF+(Māhū, Vaka sa lewa lewa, Palopa, Fa'afafine, Akava'ine, Fakaleiti or Leiti, Fakafifine, Pinapinaaine/Binabinaaine, Raerae/Māhūvahine and other gender-diverse identities). For the general public, tickets remain affordable, with full access to both parts of the event priced at about $30. “You can get tickets on our website. Just scroll down to find the ticket link,” Hobaica advised. A passion for community Hobaica’s journey from a curious child watching horror movies to hosting community events has been a fulfilling one. “It’s been kind of developing my whole life into this new monster that I never knew it was going to become,” he reflected. This upcoming Halloween event is not just about horror; it's about creating a space where everyone can feel included and celebrated. “It's incredible when people turn their passions into play,” Hobaica said, highlighting the joy that comes from sharing experiences with others. As the event draws near, he encourages everyone to join in the festivities. The event will be held at Hawaiian Brian's, conveniently located in Ala Moana near a 24-hour fitness center. Parking is available, and attendees can enjoy a $2 validation for their parking tickets. “We’ll be taking over the big DJ space, which has a large screen for our film screenings,” Hobaica said.
