HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) – A father and son duo in High Point launched a business with a mission to provide job opportunities for young adults with autism. After 1 year in business, their products are now being sold in a store in the Triad. It's extremely important to create those opportunities for adults that have challenges because they can be contributing members to society just like anyone else,” said Jeffrey Joyner, Devin’s Cliff founder. Old High Point church will soon see new life as facility to help children with autism Jeffrey Joyner founded “Devin’s Cliff” for his son 22-year-old son Devin. Selling a variety of household and professional cleaning products. It’s been 1 year since they’ve been in business. Their mission is to help build independence and bright futures for young adults with autism.  “The main things that it gives them a chance to socialize, communicate with others, be active,” said Joyner. “The Cliff” in the company’s name comes from the term falling "off the cliff”, which is used to describe the turning point for people on the autism spectrum transitioning into adulthood.  It’s when they encounter the risk of losing essential social program services and job opportunities once they reach the age of 21.  “Devon’s Cliff was a company that I started a year ago after realizing once he got out of school, it was going to be very challenging for him to get a job working independently in society,” said Joyner. Devin needs a one-on-one aide to work with him, which many jobs do not allow. “He went to an interview with the school for a program that they have to get jobs at the hospital, but they don't allow for one on one to work with them,” said Joyner. His father decided to create an opportunity for him and others with similar needs. “I think the job opportunities for special needs adults is around 32%,” Joyner said. So, I wanted to do whatever I could to make sure that that didn't happen to my son.” The business started online. Right now, it’s the two of them running the operation, bottling the products, packaging, shipping, and labeling. As his father hoped, Devin loves it. “My favorite part is meeting new people,” said Devin Joyner. Since its launch, they've sold hundreds of their products. One of their best-selling products has been their “Ausome Tire Shine”. This month, they stocked shelves for the first store their products are being sold in, at a NAPA Auto Parts store in Reidsville. “They tested out our products. We went to a car show they had back in September. They loved it. And they decided to give us an opportunity to store our products on their shelves. We appreciate it,” said Joyner. They hope to continue to expand and hire other young adults with autism. 5% of “Devin’s Cliff” revenue goes to programs for special needs, like the Autism Society.
