As Jess Kendall, 18, and four friends made their way to a Lil Durk concert at the United Center Sunday night, they were confronted by four assailants. The attackers robbed them at gunpoint before fatally shooting Kendall, according to Chicago police. "Empty your pockets! Gimme all your sh—!" the gunmen screamed while aiming guns at them, according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times. The attack unfolded as the five walked in the 100 block of North Wolcott Avenue, just minutes before the concert began at 7 p.m. After they gave the robbers their property, Kendall walked a few steps away and began yelling at them. The four then confronted Kendall, and one asked, "What boy?" before pistol-whipping him in his head, causing him to collapse. When he fought back, they "battered" him before shooting him in his chest, according to the police report. The four then "reapproached" the other victims — two Elgin sisters, 16 and 17, an 18-year-old Elgin woman and a 20-year-old Chicago man — "keeping an eye" on them as they sprinted away looking for help, the report said. Kendall, of Elgin, was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead there Monday at 2:52 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. As the attackers ran away, responding officers found two other people who had been shot, including a 19-year-old man shot in his ribs and a 15-year-old shot in his hand and abdomen. The 19-year-old was listed in critical condition; the 15-year-old was in good condition. Both were recovering at Stroger, police said.Last year, unconfirmed reports of shots fired near the end of Lil Durk’s set at the United Center sparked a “stampede” that injured several people.A GoFundMe fundraiser created on behalf of Kendall's family had raised more than $6,500 as of Tuesday morning.No arrests have been made.
