Driver crashes into Indiana State Police car while troopers investigate crash in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A suspected intoxicated driver drove off after hitting a police squad car early Monday morning according to Indiana State Police.
At around 2:15 a.m., troopers were on the scene of a crash on I-80 in Lake County. While giving a field sobriety test to a driver, another vehicle hit one of the trooper's squad cars that was parked to help block the crash scene and then fled. Debris from the impact also damaged another state police vehicle.
A trooper soon spotted the suspect's vehicle driving on three wheels. It hit a median wall and stopped. The driver then took off on foot with the trooper in pursuit. After a short chase, the suspect stopped and was taken into custody.
The suspect, Kyle C. Barbour, 26, from Hammond, was later transported to the Lake County Jail. He is preliminarily charged with the following offenses:
O.W.I. Endangering a Person- Class A Misdemeanor
Failure to Report a Crash- Class B Misdemeanor
Resisting Law Enforcement- Class A Misdemeanor
Reckless Driving Causing Property Damage- Class B Misdemeanor
