AM Headlines: Sunny & Pleasant Dry Air & Fire Concerns Tiny Temp Dip with Weak Cold Front Late Week Staying Above Average Through Saturday Strong Cold Front Sunday Cooler Next Week Discussion: Today will be another sunny and pleasant day with highs topping out near 80. Dry air will drop relative humidity levels in the mountains below 30%, which could increase fire weather concerns. However, the winds will remain light, but it is important to follow any changes in burn bans as it has been a few weeks without rain and vegetation has been drying out. A weak cold front will paa through Wednesday night into Thursday. This front won’t bring any rain, but it will bring just a slight drop to temps with highs in the upper 70s Thursday and lows falling into the upper 40s Friday morning. Temperatures will warm into the low 80s Saturday ahead of a stronger cold front late in the weekend. Once again, rain chances will be limited, but this front will pack more of a punch bringing in much cooler air with highs only reaching the mid 60s Sunday and Monday. Growing season has officially ended for Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties due to last week’s freezing temperatures. No more frost or freeze alerts will be issued. Oscar remains a tropical storm, but will likely become post tropical over the next day or so as it struggles with drier air over the bahamas.
