TOPEKA (KSNT) - Did you know the strongest 12-year-old in the world lives in Topeka, Kansas? Bo Jensen is a 7th grader at Washburn Rural Middle School and has been lifting weights since the age of seven. His head coach happens to be his own dad, Joe Jensen. Joe has been coaching powerlifting for over 20 years. "One day he came out with his older brother, Josh, and his baseball friends and they were doing deadlifts and Bo picked up like 135 pounds," Joe said. "I think he was about seven years old." After Bo's parents saw his super strength, they decided to enter him in his first powerlifting competition. Since then, his weightlifting career has taken off. At just nine years old, Bo set four Kansas powerlifting records, and soon after that, he out-lifted the entire world. Breast Cancer Awareness month to recognize men and woman fighting "Once we had all the state records in Wichita, then we went to Nebraska and we did nationals there, and he broke all the American records there," Joe said. "Then we had the youth nationals for the world in Daytona Beach, Florida, and there he got the title of strongest kid in the world. He broke all the records for kids in his age group, and it's been a roller coaster from there," Joe said. Bo has been the strongest kid in the world for four years straight in his age group, racking up his fourth title for strongest 12-year-old just three weeks ago. He trains three days a week on deadlifts, bench press, and back squats. Of these three lifts, Bo has narrowed down his favorite. "My favorite lift is deadlift," Bo said. "Cause it's my heaviest." He has won the Kansas City and American homerun derby. "Homeruns and power I think are two things that go hand in hand. So as he's grown in strength, his ability to hit home runs has just gone off the charts," Joe said. "He has a knack for just hitting the ball really really far." Bo hopes to make it to the pros one day to achieve his MLB dream of helping the Royals win the World Series one day. For more local news, click here.
