RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – As Roswell residents and businesses begin to clean up, one New Mexican woman wants them to know they haven't forgotten when Roswell stepped up in their time of need. A Ruidoso nurse is now hoping her community can return the favor. "My two little ones, my 7-year-old and ten-year-old, were playing in the little baby pool in the front yard when the police showed up and told them we had to leave," said Alyssa Linden, Ruidoso resident. "You couldn't go north to try to get out of town, the road was stopped, you couldn't go south to Alamogordo, the road was blocked, so a good portion of our community had nowhere else to go but to go to Roswell," said Linden. Now, that same community that stepped up for them is dealing with a catastrophe of its own. "Heartbreak, it was absolute heartbreak because you know we had floods here too," said Linden. Torrential rain and flash flooding tore through Roswell leaving a mess in its wake so Linden wants to return the favor. "Initially, it started as accepting donations, whether financial or actual supplies," said Linden. Within hours of getting the word out the operation has grown. Now, they are working with the Chaves County Health Council to collect clothes, toiletries, and other necessities. "Together we're formulating a plan where to send the donations, who needs it not necessarily the most but what organizations can use these supplies right away," said Linden. Linden said donations are coming in from neighboring states like Texas which has not forgotten Roswell's kindness. "I hope this helps so that we can get these people what they need because they were here for us," said Linden. All financial donations should now be sent to Pioneer Bank.
