FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Fall River Educator’s Association rallied outside of Durfee High School Monday evening to advocate for a fair contract. The FREA is arguing fair pay, paid parental leave, and improved working conditions. Union members delivered the petition to the school committee that they said hopes to correct systemic issues in educator’s working conditions. Despite having multiple meetings over several months, Fall River teachers still do not have a contract. “We’ve been negotiating since last year,” Fall River Educators’ Association President Keith Michon said. “Our contract expired in August and we’re out here fighting for a contract.” Teachers are asking for competitive compensation packages to employ highly skilled educators, more efforts towards multi-language learners and special education, and teacher autonomy and respect.
