WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Anthony Lombardi, who founded New England Frozen Lemonade more than 60 years ago, has died. The lifelong Warwick resident passed away Friday at 83 years old, according to his obituary. Lombardi first launched New England Frozen Lemonade in 1960. Though the company is now third-generation owned, Lombardi worked alongside his sons and grandsons right up until this past season. "A true entrepreneur, his unwavering confidence to take on new challenges brought him much success throughout his life," Lombardi's obituary reads. "Anthony had an infectious smile that could light up a room, and left a lasting impression on all who knew him." New England Frozen Lemonade started as a single storefront and has since expanded to include three brick and mortars, as well as the company's fleet of more than 50 iconic trucks that park at summer hot spots across the Ocean State. Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi described Lombardi as a "stand-up guy" that everyone loved. "He loved Warwick," Picozzi wrote in a social media post Monday. "He was always ready to give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed help." Picozzi said he bought his Christmas trees from Lombardi, who also owned several tree farms across the state for more than 50 years. Visitation hours are Tuesday between 4-7 p.m. at the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Home. His funeral will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. and will be immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Kevin Church. In lieu of flowers, Lombardi's loved ones are asking for donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his name. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
