LAHAINA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- The future plans for Lahaina have finally been released. Though it's taken nine months and input from nearly 4,000 people, officials still want to hear from you. Download the free KHON2 app for iOS or Android to stay informed on the latest news "It's progress moving forward and at least knowing what all sort of broad members of the community think and, you know, how we can move forward in a cohesive plan that's going to work for all of us," said Sne Patel, Lahaina Town Action Committee President. Maui County officials released the initial draft of its Lahaina long-term recovery plan online. It's taken months to compile feedback from residents, community leaders, and state and federal partners. Maui voters to decide on 3 key county Charter Amendments in upcoming election "The biggest thing and what makes me excited about long-term recovery group are the people a part of it and tackling the issues," said Blake Ramelb, Lahaina resident. The plan has 40 projects broken up into short-term, mid-term and long-term goals. Areas of focus include community planning, economic recovery, health and social services, housing, infrastructure and natural and cultural resources. "Their biggest thing which seems like trying to let people affected and impacted by fires to get back to a place where they were pre-disaster," said Ramelb. The county wants to get your input on all of it. Maui Mayor Richard Bissen stated, "it's crucial that every Lahaina voice is heard in this process And your input will be the cornerstone of our restoration." "The input that's provided and the knowledge that the county and the state and everyone's gained from those that are living and working in those in this community are heard and actually action is taken from it," said Patel. People are encouraged to provide input online. There will also be open houses on Wednesday night and Saturday morning at the Lahainaluna High School cafeteria.
