CALVERT COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- The race for U.S. Senate in Maryland continues in high gear with both Democrat Angela Alsobrooks and Republican Larry Hogan courting voters. Early voting ballots are eligible to be cast later this week. Alsobrooks staged a rally in Howard County over the weekend, telling supporters that "gun violence is the No. 1 killer of our children," and vowing to address the issue on Capitol Hill. Polls show Maryland Hogan trailing in US Senate race At her side, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore proclaimed his support. "In Angela Alsobrooks we really see someone who is the future, not the past. The future," he said. Meanwhile, Moore's predecessor at the State House, Larry Hogan, barnstormed southern Maryland after raising concerns over the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project, which proposed a transmission line crossing Frederick, Carroll and Baltimore counties. "It has moved along without any transparency," Hogan said. "There's been no communication, none with the local officials. I'm going to continue to do everything I can to get some answers." As Hogan sees it, "they've done such a terrible job working with the local communities."
