FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A Fresno-based comic book store is representing Central Valley business with an annual trek to the East Coast to take part in the New York Comic Con (NYCC). Legends Comics and Games in Fresno made the journey this past weekend, the culmination of a 48-hour drive to New York. Red Power Ranger coming to the rescue in Clovis The owner, Darrick Oyama, says he loaded up all the inventory he could and drove across the country to be a part of the event. "This is really a whole small store in itself that we set up here," Oyama said. "[It's] a lot of work, but it's it's a lot of fun. We get to meet a lot of new people. We have regulars and fans out here on the East Coast." Oyama says he even runs into other people from Fresno at New York City Comic Con. He says the friendships and connections from going to conventions help add to what Legends Comics has to offer in Fresno and Clovis. "We just make connections, try and set up things that we can bring back to Fresno to enhance the Central Valley," Oyama said. Oyama says the ordeal of traveling back and forth is worth it for the chance to experience the convention and bring that experience back to his loyal customers. "We do it for the community, really. We had a lot of support during COVID when we were forced to shut down. A lot of customers came out and did curbside pick-up with us," Oyama said. "So we wanted to give something back. We started doing all these signings and bringing celebrities in for people that can't make it to these conventions." YourCentralValley.com's interview with Darrick Oyama was provided by Manny Gomez.
