(KRON) -- San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after suffering a knee injury in the 49ers' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan reported that he tore the MCL and ACL in his right knee. Aiyuk, 26, was hit by two Chiefs while catching a pass from Brock Purdy, and the collision caused his knee to bend backward. Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs stay undefeated, beat 49ers 28-18 in Super Bowl rematch The injury comes just two months after Aiyuk ended a contentious holdout by inking a long-term extension with the 49ers. After missing most of training camp, Aiyuk signed a four-year deal at the end of August to stay in San Francisco. Aiyuk broke out in the 2023 season with 1,342 yards on 75 catches, earning a Second Team All-Pro nod. He had 25 catches for 374 yards in 2024 before the injury. The injury is another tough blow to a banged-up 49ers team. Reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey has still not taken the field as he comes back from a calf injury. In a call with reporters on Monday, Shanahan also said that wide receiver Deebo Samuel was hospitalized on Sunday night due to fluid building up in his lungs. Tight end George Kittle is week-to-week with a sprained foot. On the bright side, McCaffrey could be back for Week 10, after the 49ers' bye week. The 49ers are 3-4 on the season after losing 28-18 to the Chiefs. They next host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
