(KRON) – A San Francisco bar has made Cosmopolitan’s “Quirkiest, Weirdest, and Wackiest Themed Cocktail Bars” in the nation. Smuggler’s Cove even has a local and nautical theme with a surplus of exotic rum.   Owner and creator of Smuggler’s Cove Martin Cate told KRON4.com the bar's inspiration was the “maritime history of both rum and San Francisco” and the bar was “designed as a celebration of the world's most diverse spirit.” Located in SF’s Fillmore District, the bar opened in 2009. According to Cate, Smuggler's Cove is “home to the largest selection of rum in the United States.” 2 Bay Area breweries win ‘gold medal’ beer award The ambiance is complete with dim lighting, tiki decorations and rum-flavored cocktails. Smuggler’s Cove was listed as one of the “World’s 50 Best Bars” by Drinks International for six years – 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.  Other California bars to be listed as the ‘quirkiest’ bars in the nation are Treehouse Lounge in Huntington Beach and Wolfe’s Carousel in San Diego.  Treehouse’s name gets straight to the point, as a treehouse-inspired bar. Wolfe’s Carousel takes bar-seated patrons on a ride with a functional grand carousel.
