National prescription take back day Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WWLP) - If you have old or unused medications in your home, you can dispose of them free with no questions asked as part of the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The bi-annual event is being held on Saturday, October 26, and is an effort to reduce medication misuse, overdoses, and overdose deaths by removing medications that could get into the wrong hands and cause harm.

Acceptable medications:
Prescription medications, ointments and patches
Over-the-counter medications, ointments, lotions and liquids
Pet medications
Vitamins and supplements
Aerosol cans
Inhalers
Personal information should be removed or marked out with a permanent marker. NO intravenous solutions, injectables, needles, thermometers, hydrogen peroxide or illegal drugs will be accepted.
The Drug Take Back Day held on April 27, 2024, saw 4,607 law enforcement agencies participate at 4,869 locations nationally, including 188 in Massachusetts. In total, 335 tons of drugs were collected on that day.
