Protesters took over an administration building on the University of Minnesota campus Monday afternoon and were causing property damage and stopping people from entering or exiting the building, according to an alert issued by the university. The alert issued at 4:39 p.m. said the protestors had entered Morrill Hall on the East Bank. “If you are currently in Morrill Hall and able to safely exit the building, please do so immediately. Others are advised to avoid this area until further notice,” the alert said. Members of the UMN Students for Democratic Society organized the protest and had called for others to join in taking over the building Monday on X, formerly Twitter. They are protesting the university’s connection with companies supporting Israel and asking for “economic divestment from Israel.” “The people inside will not leave until our demands are met or they are forcibly removed,” the post said. The university alert said further updates and safety tips would be issued at publicsafety.umn.edu/alerts.
