OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Starting on Tuesday, water is expected to be drawn from Lake Canton in northwest Oklahoma to help replenish Oklahoma City's primary water source, Lake Hefner. The decision to draw water from Lake Canton comes after Lake Hefner's levels have dropped significantly due to unseasonably warm and dry weather conditions. Oklahoma City catalogs where lead pipes are located in the city The Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust, in collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, plan to draw 16,000 acre-feet of water from Lake Canton down the North Canadian River to Lake Hefner over the course of three to five days. The Canton release scheduled for Tuesday will be the first made from the lake by OCWUT this year. The most recent release was in 2022. Engineers say that after the release, Canton's water levels will drop by about three feet while Hefner's will rise around the same amount.
