PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Eleven shootings. Over the past month in Portsmouth, the city has seen 11 shootings — three that happened on Sunday alone, and multiple videos show an apparent victim and others ducking for cover in the first of the weekend shootings, around 2:40 a.m. Sunday on High Street. Overnight shooting leaves man seriously injured in Portsmouth Later in the afternoon, another shooting took place on Victory Boulevard around 1 p.m. The last reported shooting Sunday took place on Jefferson Street around 5:30 p.m. In that shooting, one man died and two other people were injured after suffering gunshot wounds. PPD: 1 dead, 2 injured after shooting on Jefferson Street The sounds of High Street shooting were caught on someone's dash camera — additional videos showed other angles. Twelve shots rung out on the footage captured by a dash camera. Shortly after, a man can be seen walking toward the hood of the car with a gun in hand. After falling onto the hood of the car, two men approached the victim, taking the gun and patting the victim down. The man appears to be shot, and saying "I am going to die, I'm going to die." The two are then seen, apparently talking with someone in a white SUV briefly before getting in the car and driving off, leaving the injured victim. He can be heard calling for someone to take him to the hospital a couple times before collapsing onto the street. Another video showed the moment several people, including three women, heard the gunshots before ducking behind a vehicle. The Old Town Business Association in Portsmouth hosted a closed-door meeting Monday to discuss the recent incidents. "Yes, it's troublesome," said High Street business owner Tony Goodwin. "And I think there has to be some accountability for community leaders that say they're going to do something, but don't act on it." The shootings are affecting all parts of the city, including Olde Towne, where many work, live, eat and shop. Goodwin said High Street is a safe place, but stories like this do not help. Sunshine Swinson, who owns a night club on High Street, said she's cutting back her hours, closing earlier. "I'm not quite sure where this uptick in violence is coming from, but I want people to rest assure that my facilities, my businesses, my employees, we want to be part of the solution to whatever we have to do to make sure we're part of the solution," Swinson said. Community groups are sending a message to city leaders to make High Street safer. They are looking for more lighting, more police patrols and more surveillance cameras, among other things. Police Chief Stephen Jenkins has expressed concerns over the shootings, and 10 On Your Side has been told he will have comments on this Wednesday.
