MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A stolen BMW led police to an 18-year-old suspect with a string of charges from a robbery, including attempted murder. Police say a 2008 BMW was reported stolen on Sept. 8. On Oct. 20th, officers responded to an abandoned vehicle call on Craft Road in Memphis. They began recovering the vehicle when a male in possession of the car's key approached them and told officers he knew who the vehicle belonged to. He was detained. An investigation led to Arthur Simmons, who was at another address on Craft Road. Simmons was detained, charged and admitted to being involved in the car theft, police said. Arthur Simmons Simmons had a previous open case dated Sept. 10, according to court records. In that case, he was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted aggravated robbery and a firearms charge. A bail screening form in the robbery states that Simmons pulled a high-powered weapon on a victim, stole a phone and fired a shot at the victim, striking him in the buttocks. Suspect in medical student’s death being held without bond Despite noting that Simmons has no prior convictions, the bail form states, "Defendant poses a significant risk to public safety." He was held on $600,000 bond.
