MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested after officers say he stole a truck at gunpoint from a Midtown driveway, then led deputies on a chase before crashing in Frayser on Sunday evening.
Clarence Doss, 26, seen with a bandaged head in his mug shot, is charged with carjacking, aggravated robbery, two separate charges of evading arrest and imitation of a firearm — because he told officers the gun he brandished was a pellet gun.
The victim said he was sitting in his 2004 Ford Ranger in his driveway in the Hein Park area around 6 p.m. when two males approached and asked to use his phone. They pulled him from the truck and began punching him.
When the man resisted, one attacker allegedly pointed a gun and said, "I don't want to hurt you." They got away in the truck.

At 7:15, Shelby County deputies spotted the stolen truck at Highway 51 and Armstrong Field Road. They turned on their lights, but the truck led them on a high-speed chase.
The truck crashed into a utility pole at Whitney and Overton Crossing. The driver, identified as Doss, got out and ran but was caught by deputies.
Doss was taken to a hospital with injuries from the wreck before he was taken to jail.
He allegedly admitted that he and a co-defendant committed the carjacking. The other man's name is not listed in a police affidavit.
