NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- Three firearms and drugs were seized following a vehicle pursuit and foot chase in North Charleston Friday night. Around 7 p.m., North Charleston Officer McClellan noticed a suspicious vehicle trespassing at a closed church on the intersection of Cosgrove Avenue and Lenape Street, the agency said. Officer McClellan smelled marijuana and attempted to contact the vehicle’s occupants. The driver then fled before stopping at Meeting Street Road and Hackemann Avenue. The front seat passenger jumped out of the vehicle with an AR-style pistol when the car stopped, North Charleston police said. All three of the vehicle's original occupants were detained shortly after. Law enforcement also searched the vehicle, finding two more firearms and about 15 grams of fentanyl. Ronnie Efrem Smiley III, 22, was charged with failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and possession of a firearm or ammunition. Raquan Akiel Ladson, 19, was charged with wearing masks in the like and pedestrian in the roadway. Devondre Carlos Benbow, 18, was charged with wearing masks in the like and trafficking fentanyl.
