BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The Diocese of Buffalo's vicar general reminded priests in a letter to be "mindful of their promise of obedience" by not assisting with appeals of church closings. Bishop Michael Fisher proposed in September to close about 70 churches. Church leaders cited fewer parishioners and priests and less funds to operate the churches. The decision angered parishioners, who are appealing. It includes a directive that no parish funds, social media accounts or property can be used for appeal purposes. The diocese continues to wade through bankruptcy court in a part to negotiate a settlement for about 900 sexual abuse claims.
