NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Breakups are hard, and sometimes the end means days, or weeks, of isolation, reflection, and tears. Some people dive right back into social circles — relying on friends, family, or even alcohol — to help ease the pain, but not everyone fits into those categories. There's one group who seems to carry no emotional baggage, and effortlessly move on and reenter the dating scene right away — as if the breakup never happened. A survey, conducted by DatingNews.com, uncovered how long it takes people to get over a breakup and if the healing process varies. Against the national trend, women in North Dakota take nine weeks, on average, to recover — because they rely on their social circle to stay distracted and active. But North Dakota men take about 14 weeks on average. Compare that to New York, the women take about 15 weeks to recover while men take only five weeks. The rise of costs could impact your health insurance The survey also found out some other aspects of the recovery process. When it comes to activities that help the most, nearly half of people said spending time with friends and family does the trick. After all, your family knows you best and can be the best support system. Others include focusing on work and/or hobbies, exercising, seeking therapy/counseling, and traveling or taking a break. On the other hand, some went to extremes. Some people threw themselves into a rebound relationship while others opted for a drastic image makeover. Yet, others try to accelerate the process even faster by deleting all traces of their ex or signing up for dating apps on the same day. Despite this, almost one-third of people said they regretted how quickly they moved on, and realized that they hadn't given themselves enough time to heal. "It's clear from the survey results that men and women experience breakups differently, both in emotional intensity and the time it takes to heal," said Editor-in-Chief of DatingNews, Amber Brooks. "While men might lean on distractions and social activities to recover, women often take a deeper, more introspective approach. Both methods have their merits, but the important takeaway is to allow yourself the time and space you need to heal properly, regardless of how long it takes." Close Thanks for signing up!
