BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County has been ranked number two in the state for having the most cases of heart disease especially for diabetic residents, which is also on the rise, according to interventional cardiologist at Centric Health, Dr. Sarabjeet Singh. Over 78% of Kern adults are diabetic, according to Kern County Public Health. Chairperson for this year's Heart and Stroke Walk, Dr. Singh, joined 17 News at Noon to talk about this weekend's event and the benefits of eliminating dairy products from your diet. Dr. Singh says over 90% of patients should focus on having heart healthy diets. Primarily the Mediterranean diet has been proven to be an aid in cardiovascular health. This year's Heart and Stroke Walk aims to raise awareness in adopting healthier habits and get out and move. The walk will be held at Bakersfield College beginning at 8 a.m., with the walk starting an hour later. Funds raised at the event will benefit the American Heart Association's lifesaving work.
