It was a warm, sun-filled weekend, and this pattern won't end today. A chilly morning in the 30s and 40s has turned into another beautiful afternoon, with temperatures climbing through the 70s. Before the day ends, we'll see most of the DMV push 80 degrees, which is unseasonably warm for late October. With high pressure not going anywhere, clear skies will continue tonight. Temperatures will drop into the upper 30s and 40s in the coldest valleys, with 50s more likely around the cities and the bay. Tuesday will be the warmest day of the week, with temperatures climbing into the lower 80s thanks to another day of abundant sunshine. The ridge that's been overhead the last several days will finally start to break down on Wednesday, opening the door for a cold front to swing in from the northwest. It will still be another warm afternoon before the front sweeps through in a weakened state Wednesday night. No rain is expected, only a wind shift and a temperature drop. Breezy northwest winds will keep temperatures in the 60s under sunny skies on Thursday, which is typical for late October. Another massive ridge of high pressure will set up behind this cold front, keeping this stretch of bone-dry weather going. Besides the first two days of the month, most of the DMV hasn't picked up any rain through the rest of October, so we could use some rain. Our only opportunity for even a few drops will be Friday night into Saturday as another front sweeps by. At best, only a few stray showers may clip by, which won't help much.
