Cade Maglione, the all-time goals and points record holder at Allentown High School, is continuing to excel on the soccer pitch at Lafayette College. He was recently named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week after his goal led the Leopards to a 2-0 win over Holy Cross on Oct. 12. It was Maglione’s second Patriot League weekly award of his career, after being named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Sept. 9 for his first career goal at Villanova. Against Holy Cross, it was the freshman’s second goal of the year. Maglione beat three Holy Cross defenders before unleashing a successful strike into the top-right corner. Maglione has started in 12 of 13 matches in midfield, tallying over 1,000 minutes played thus far. Lafayette is 6-5-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the Patriot League. Mahana Named to Patriot Honor Roll Zein Mahana (Princeton) was named to the Patriot League Honor Roll after sweeping the diving events in Boston University’s victory over Holy Cross. Mahana totaled a career-high 335.70 points in the three-meter event, while also winning the one-meter with a score of 295.80. Hitchingham Earns Centennial Honor Swarthmore’s Sophia Hitchingham (Pennsbury) was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week in field hockey after a great performance against No. 17 Ursinus and Gettysburg. She tallied two goals and an assist in wins over 17th-ranked Ursinus and Gettysburg last week. Hitchingham was a factor in both goals in Swarthmore’s 2-1 triumph against No. 17 Ursinus, scoring the first tally of the game then setting up the  game-winner in the fourth quarter. She also scored the opening goal in a 4-3 overtime win at Gettysburg. Evaldi Off to Great Start Beth Evaldi (Hun) the reigning NJAC Diver of the Year, earns the first NJAC Diver of the Week honor for the 2024-25 season. The College of New Jersey junior won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events in TCNJ’s season opener against Salisbury, recording a regional cut score of 270.90 points on the 3-meter board. That score currently ranks as the top score in NCAA Division III. She also registered 252.83 points on the 1-meter board, which ranks fifth nationally. Landmark Honors Springler Riley Springler (Neshaminy) was named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week from Moravian in women’s soccer after a pair of shutouts. The grad student recorded seven saves as Moravian posted a pair of scoreless draws during the week. She had three saves at Goucher College before making four stops versus Lycoming College. Surtz Has Second Straight 100-yard Game Matt Surtz (Robbinsville) broke a 95-yard touchdown run to highlight his 135 yards rushing on eight carries in No. 8 Susquehanna’s 66-21 win over Juniata. The touchdown run was the second longest in school history. The 135 yards are a career high for the sophomore, who is averaging 9.9 yards a carry. Last week against Keystone, Surtz ground out 108 yards rushing Wu Has Great Start to Senior Season Michael Wu (WW-P North) was named the first NJAC Diver of the Week of the 2024-25 season for his performance in TCNJ’s season-opening dual meet win over Salisbury. Wu won the 3-meter 6-dive competition with an NJAC-best and NCAA regional qualifying score of 301.80 points, which is the eighth highest score so far this year in the nation. He also placed second in the 1-meter 6-dive competition with a score of 239.03, which is the second-highest in the NJAC behind teammate Ethan Weiss and is in the top 25 nationally. *** Football: Mekhi Gibson (Ewing) had five catches for 77 yards, including a 346-yard touchdown catch for No. 5 Kutztown in a win over Shippensburg. …Shaun Balkcom (Trenton) had five tackles for Delaware Valley in a win over FDU-Florham and Kwanir Edwards (Nottingham) has 60 yards rushing, including a touchdown for FDU-Florham. …Andrew Campbell (Willingboro) had seven tackles, including a sack for Eastern in a win over Alvernia. …Gary Lewis (Lawrenceville) had a team high five receptions for Franklin & Marshall in a game with Johns Hopkins. …Pat McAulife (Hamilton West) started at right tackle for and Art Stubbs (Lawrence) started at linebacker for Gettysburg in a game with Muhlenberg. ….Zeshan Dixon (Hamilton West) had a pair of tackles for Hobart in a win over St. Lawrence. …Max Locke (Conwell-Egan) had three tackles for Juniata in game with Susquehanna. …George Chrissafis (Notre Dame) had a 41.1 punting average and Matt Vingara (Robbinsville) had two receptions for Kean against TCNJ. …Devin Higgins (Hopewell Valley) had a season high 117 receiving yards and a touchdown for Wilkes in a win over Keystone. …Shane Martin (Robbinsville) had four receptions for 32 for Rowan in a game with Christopher Newport. …Tim Willever (Northern Burlington) had a pair of field goals from 31 and 21 yards and he converted four points after for The College of New Jersey in a win over Kean. …Aaron Rios (Steinert) had three tackles for Ursinus in a win over William Paterson. …Mahsiah McRae (Trenton) rushed for five yards and threw a pass for William Paterson against Ursinus. Golf: Navy’s Jack Tarzy (Hun) shot a 9-under par 135 (66-69) to finish second out of 24 competitors for the Commander-in-Chief’s Cup at the par-72 Scottsdale National Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The junior led the Middies to a second-place finish, beating Air Force by 12 strokes. Men’s Soccer: Matt Collins (Florence) has six saves for Wilkes in a game with Juniata. …
