CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) - The Chatham County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) says they have been made aware of a telephone scam where someone is using the local sex offender registry to get money.
According to the CCSO, the scammer is using a list to contact individuals notifying them that they are from CCSO and are requesting $1,000 because of warrants, fees, missing court, or failure to register.
The CCSO says their Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit would never request money over the phone.
