NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The strongest storm system of the season, which has been deadly, has mostly cleared the region with still some lingering storms in the East Plains, as well as leftover flurries in the Northern Mountains, but there will be much more pleasant weather ahead. Along with lingering clouds in northeastern areas, isolated strong storms have been firing off from Causey to Tucumcari, but elsewhere is drying out, including Roswell, but the Pecos River is still running at flood stage this morning with water levels only beginning to recede. Along with the chill in the air to start to the northwest compared to the milder and humid start to the southeast, south-southwesterly winds are in place with higher gusts in the Southeast Highlands, as well as the mountains, as temperatures are ranging from mostly the 20s to the low-to-mid 60s across New Mexico. For most, mostly clear skies will ensue for most of the day and as temperatures will rise, southwesterly winds will pick up a little bit., drying out the atmosphere even more. From the morning school commute on into the afternoon, temperatures will eventually reach into the high 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and low 80s, close to normal for this time of the year. As the trough of low pressure continues to move away to the northeast with moisture exiting to the east, precipitation will be gone later today as temperatures will drop a little bit more tonight. Much drier and eventually warmer air is set to return later this week.
