RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News Anchor Deanna Allbrittin and Good Morning Richmond Anchor Delaney Hall sat down in the WRIC NOW livestreaming studio with the Alzheimer's Association's Madison Wilkins to discuss the Walk to End Alzheimer's 2024. "The Promise Garden is probably my favorite part of the walk," Wilkins said. "The flowers represent each individual and their connection to the cause. So every single person who is registered for the walk and joins us on walk day will get one of these flowers." The colors of the flowers indicate that person's connection to the walk: Blue is for someone living with Alzheimer's or dementia Yellow is for someone who supports or cares for someone with Alzheimer's or dementia Purple is for someone who has lost someone to Alzheimer's or dementia Orange is for someone who supports the cause of the Alzheimer's Association and the organization's vision for a world without Alzheimer's This year, organizers have established an ambitious goal to raise $925,000. At the time of this reporting, more than $590,000 has been raised -- about 64% toward the goal. The walk will offer a 2.5-mile option and a 1-mile option and take place at City Stadium, beginning with the opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m on Saturday, Nov. 9. This year, we’re inviting everyone to join the 8News team to participate and raise donations for the walk. Participation is free but sponsorship donations will go towards funding awareness, care and research into the disease that affects millions of Americans.
