RICHMOND, R.I. (WPRI) — Richmond police are mourning the loss of one of their officers. Several police departments throughout Rhode Island posted on social media that Sgt. Michael Lawing passed away after a sudden illness. The Richmond-Carolina Fire District posted he also served as a member of their department and previously held the rank of lieutenant. "Our heartfelt condolences to his wife and children and our thoughts are with his entire family," the department wrote. Town Pizza 2 in Richmond also posted on social media that on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. all proceeds will be donated to the Lawing family. No word on when services will be held at this time.
