Since the Lexington History Museum settled into its current home on Broadway, it’s fair to say a lot has been happening. Members of a City Council committee got an update last week. Lexington History Museum Director Mandy Higgins said since August of last year more than 25 hundred people from 38 states and 18 foreign countries have stopped in. Higgins said one of the biggest accomplishments was when the collection in six storage units was consolidated. “We can now say that we will be able to put them all in a single safe space at the Thomas Hunt Morgan House for the first time in more than a decade,” said Higgins. Higgins told Council members the entire historic home is now available for museum use. And the museum director said that means two new spaces for exhibits and allows for showcasing the historic building. Now through mid-February is a special exhibit entitled, “Among Women, 130 years of the Woman’s Club of Central Kentucky.” “We weave Lexington’s history and the club’s history together through eight featured women who represent sort of eight different eras of the club from 1894 until today,” said Higgins. A number of Council members expressed appreciation for what’s been accomplished at the museum inside the Thomas Hunt Morgan House on Broadway. The museum is open weekly on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
