Tomorrow, the Drew Cubed Project, alongside the family of Andrew Washington and local community members, will lead a march in Jersey City as part of the Annual National Day of Action Against Police Brutality. This event marks the second consecutive year that Washington’s family and the Jersey City community are taking part in this nationwide demonstration. The National Day of Action, now in its 29th year, is organized by the October 22nd Coalition, a movement affiliated with the Stolen Lives Project, a watchdog group that documents those killed by law enforcement. The march in Jersey City will include multiple stops, beginning at Public Safety Headquarters located at 365 MLK Drive at 4:30 pm and concluding at City Hall. The march will include community figures such as civil rights activist Rev. Herbert Daughtry, Pastor Ritney Castine, Pamela Johnson of the Hudson County Anti-Violence Coalition Movement, Zayid Muhammad of NJ Communities for Accountable Policing, and Councilman Frank Gilmore. Andrew Washington was killed by Jersey City police officers in August 2023, during a police response to a mental health crisis. His death led to protests throughout the city and significantly influenced the recent signing of the Seabrooks-Washington Community-Led Crisis Response Act by Governor Murphy, which will pilot community-led emergency response teams. The post Activists to Honor Andrew Washington Tomorrow with Day of Action Against Police Brutality March appeared first on Jersey City Times.
