NEEDHAM, Ind. -- A Needham man has been charged after he reportedly touched a 6-year-old inappropriately when she was at his home. According to court documents, filed in Shelby County earlier this month, 37-year-old John David Compton was charged with one count of child molesting, a Level 4 felony. This was in relation to a reported incident that happened in early September. On Sept. 9, deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department received a phone call from the mother of a 6-year-old, alleging that a man, later identified as Compton, touched the child inappropriately. Delphi murders: Day 3 of testimony includes graphic crime scene photos The mother told deputies that Compton, who the child called "Johnny," had touched her when she was on the porch of his home. The mother told deputies that the family was "really good friends with (Compton) and all their children play together." On Sept. 11, deputies conducted a search of Compton's home and seized a surveillance camera. During the search, deputies reportedly attempted to interview Compton, but Compton refused to interview without his lawyer present. In the video surveillance, deputies allege that it shows that as the child is leaving the house, Compton calls her back on the porch. The footage reportedly shows the child sitting between Compton's legs and eventually on top of his lap, the time which deputies allege that Compton touched the child inappropriately. The child then enters the home a few seconds later and is eventually seen riding away from the house on her bike, the documents allege.
