The rebuilt Fire Station 5 was unveiled Friday and will be the Boise Fire Department’s fourth station on the corner of 16th Street and Front Street. Named the “Home of the Sleepless Knights,” the site has been a cornerstone of the department since 1906. The Idaho Press reports the new, 15,000-square-foot station, which remains the oldest and busiest location operated by the department, will feature a new, all-electric operation as well as a dedicated decontamination room for crew members’ gear, additions that are meant to make the newest station rendition the cleanest and safest yet. To accommodate for growing needs within the downtown core, the redesigned station has room for adding an additional bay that will accommodate a two-person unit to be utilized for responding to medical calls. This expansion will lessen the demands on the station’s fire engine and ladder truck and allow Station 5 to better respond to whatever fires may arise in the downtown area.
