WATFORD CITY, ND (KXNET) — The Watford City Police Department is warning area residents about scam letters sent to local mail addresses. The police say the letters will appear to come from a business which has products to offer you or a reward for you if you complete a survey. The letter also contains a QR code which states to scan it. The police say don't scan the QR code as it may offer the scammer access to personal or financial information in your phone. If you've received such a letter or if you have further questions, you're asked to contact the Watford City Police Department. This is similar to the "brushing" scam that was circulating in the eastern part of the state in September.
