RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) — Police departments throughout Rhode Island are grieving the loss of a fellow officer who died after a brief and unexpected illness. Sgt. Michael Lawing of the Richmond Police Department died suddenly, according to East Greenwich Police Officers IBPO Local #472. “Members of the East Greenwich Police Department send our sincerest condolences to the Richmond Police Department as they grieve one of their own,” they stated in a post. “Rest easy Sgt. we’ll take the watch from here.” Lawing was a part of the department was over 20 years.
