RICHMOND, R.I. (WPRI) — A man has died following a major crash that shut down all lanes of traffic on I-95 North in Richmond Sunday night. State Police say just before 7 p.m., a 16-year-old was driving a car with his mother in the front seat and was towing another vehicle being steered by his father when a truck slammed into them. The vehicle was towing with only tie-down ropes and didn't have the proper safety lights, according to state police. A witness drove by and said the car was also traveling well below the speed limit and the truck driver said he didn't see the two cars in front of him when he was driving. State police say the father was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The boy and his mother were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No names are being released at this time, but state police say the family is from Peru. The crash shut down all three lanes of traffic in the area of Exit 9 for nearly three hours.
