ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WROC) — The Bills did not gain a first down on their first three drives. The Titans scored the game's first ten points. But the second half was all Buffalo as the Bills took down the Titans 34-10 in Amari Cooper's debut. The Bills scored on all five of their drives in the second half. The first touchdown of the half came on Cooper's first catch with the Bills, a 12-yard pass from Josh Allen. Cooper finished with four catches for 66 yards and a score. He wasn't the only receiver to shine for the Bills as Keon Coleman had four grabs for 125 yards, his first 100-yard game as a pro. Josh Allen completed 21 of 33 attempts for 323 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw an interception. The first game for the Bills with Amari Cooper did not start out well. Cooper dropped his first pass from Josh Allen on third and short, forcing Buffalo into a three and out on the game's first possession, the first of three for Buffalo. After giving up 10 points on the Titans' first three drives, the Bills' defense pitched a shutout in the final three quarters. Greg Rousseau had six QB hits, the most by a player this season in the NFL. He had a half-sack, split with Dawuane Smoot. Tennessee's second possession featured a pair of impressive third-down conversions from backup Mason Rudolph. The drive stalled inside the Bills ten-yard line, due in part to a false start that got Tennessee into 1st and 15. Titans settled for a 25-yard field goal and an early 3-0 lead. After the third Bills possession without a first down, Tennessee found the end zone. Taron Johnson committed a costly unnecessary roughness penalty that negated a third down stop inside the red zone. On third and four from the five-yard line, Mason Rudolph scrambled and found Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for a touchdown and a 10-0 lead. The Bills needed only three plays to answer. Keon Coleman got lost in coverage and Allen found him for a 44-yard catch and run to the Tennessee 11-yard line. James Cook scored on the next snap and Buffalo was right back within three at 10-7. The Titans got a first down on their next drive, but Rudolph fumbled the next snap and Terrel Bernard recovered. Buffalo couldn't do anything with the turnover thanks to an Arden Key sack. A punt back to Tennessee went into the end zone and the Titans took over on their 20. Buffalo forced another fumble with A.J. Epenesa sack on some great coverage downfield. The loose ball bounced 20 yards towards the Titans goal line, but Tennessee recovered to avoid a turnover. The sack and fumble did pin Rudolph and the offense in 2nd and 30. After two draw plays, the Titans punted. A fourth three-and-out closed the first half for the Bills offense. Tennessee got to run a multi-lateral play at the end of the half that got within the Buffalo 20-yard line, but never really threatened to score. It was 10-7 at the half. The Titans got the ball first in the second half. Bernard and Dorian Williams stopped a direct snap to Tony Pollard that forced 4th and 2. The Titans went for the first down from their own 44 yard line. DeWayne Carter penetrated and helped stuff that run to give Buffalo the ball back on the Tennessee half of the field. Dalton Kincaid made a tough catch on the sideline to convert 3rd and 12. Two plays later, Cooper finally had his first Bills reception. It was a 12-yard touchdown on a quick post route over the middle. The play also gave Buffalo their first lead of the game at 14-10. Greg Rousseau got his first sack since the season opener to help shortcircuit the next Titans drive. After a punt, Buffalo had the ball at their own 26-yard line and the lead. A 22-yard Ray Davis run and a 19-yard Cooper catch immediately got Buffalo inside the Tennessee 20. However, two passes from the Titans 10-yard line went incomplete. Tyler Bass made a 28-yard field goal and the Bills increased the lead to 17-10. The Titans failed to get a first down on their third consecutive possession to start the half and Buffalo started their next drive at their own 44 after a punt. The first snap was a 27-yard throw to Cooper that got Buffalo to the Tennessee 29-yard line. Allen followed with a third and long conversion to Kincaid that went for 25 yards down to the two-yard line. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Allen cashed the drive-in with a TD pass to Ty Johnson for four yards. Buffalo was firmly in control at 24-10. A fourth straight stop by the Bills defense without allowing a first down got Buffalo the ball back at their own 29. Khalil Shakir was the star of this drive with three catches for 44 yards. Coleman had a back shoulder throw that was initially ruled a TD, but overturned on replay because he could not hold on to the catch right away. Buffalo still tacked on a field goal to make it 27-10. Damar Hamlin intercepted a pass to stop the next Titans drive. Coleman caught a short slant on the first play after the interception and went 57 yards to the Tennessee 27. Rookie RB Ray Davis ran it in from 16 yards out. Another Bass extra point, and we have our final score 34-10.
