After working tirelessly to make sure he could be on the field, veteran running back Aaron Jones was active for the Vikings on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium. His status was up in the air heading into the pivotal matchup with the Detroit Lions. He suffered a hamstring injury on Oct. 6 while the Vikings were playing the New York Jets in London, and while he was originally viewed as a long shot to play against the Lions, he started trending in the right direction in the 72 hours leading up tot he game. Frankly, the fact that that Jones was was available for the Vikings was a testament how seriously he took the recovery process. He spent the bye week at TCO Performance Center rehabbing his hamstring injury, trying from massages to acupuncture in search of a remedy that made him feel better. That’s something that head coach Kevin O’Connell acknowledged postgame. “Literally from the time we touched down from London, it’s been sun up to sun down treatment,” O’Connell said. “He’s a true pro’s pro.” The presence of Jones was a major boost for the Vikings despite the 31-29 loss to the Lions. Everything functions better with Jones in the mix as he’s capable of gaining chunks of yardage on the ground and catching passes out of the backfield. That proved to be the case as Jones finished with 14 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown to go along with 3 catches for 23 yards. “He was phenomenal,” O’Connell said. “Just very, very fortunate  to have Aaron Jones on the football team that I coach.” Briefly The inactives for the Vikings included linebacker Blake Cashman, cornerback Akayleb Evans, running back Myles Gaskin, left tackle Walter Rouse, cornerback Dwight McGlothern, defensive tackle Levi Drake Rodriguez, and quarterback Brett Rypien.
