ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Residents across Southeast Louisiana can bring their expired or unwanted prescription medications to Drug Take Back Day events on Saturday, Oct. 26. The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office reported that it is participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Drug Take Back Day, which offers "a great chance for residents to responsibly dispose of old medications, keeping them out of the reach of children who might misuse them or criminals who could sell them illegally." $3M industrial park opens in New Orleans East Parish residents who have unwanted medications they want to dispose of can head to the Walgreens at 100 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and give them to an SBSO Narcotics Unit agent. SBSO officials said those who cannot attend the event can also bring unwanted medications to the sheriff's office's medication drop box at 4700 Paris Road in Chalmette. Hammond packaging facility to get $35M upgrade In St. James Parish, residents can bring medications including tablets, capsules patches and "other solid forms of prescription drugs" to the Vacherie Sub-office Annex at 2631 Highway 20 in Vacherie or the first floor of the Administration Building at the Convent Courthouse at 5800 Highway 44 in Convent. St. James Parish deputies said syringes, sharps and illicit drugs will not be accepted, and liquid products should be sealed in their original containers. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office reported that residents can bring expired or unused prescription medications to the Sheriff's Office Headquarters at 260 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. St. Charles Parish deputies said vapes with batteries or inhalers will not be accepted.
