STATESVILLE, N.C. – One person died and another was injured following a car crash in Statesville on Sunday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 9:20 a.m. on Old Mountain Road and Rumple Hill Drive.
Troopers said a Chevrolet Blazer was traveling south on Old Mountain Road. The driver attempted to make a left turn onto Rumple Hill Drive but turned in front of a northbound Ford van.
The Chevrolet driver, 76-year-old James Sheehan, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.
Leonard Hagler, 69, was operating the van and sustained minor injuries.
Neither speed nor impairment are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, troopers said.
No charges will be filed in this case, the highway patrol said.
