Deshaun Watson is likely done for the season after suffering a right Achilles tendon injury in the second quarter Oct. 20 in the Browns’ game with the Cincinnati Bengals at Huntington Bank Field. And that’s the worst of it, as far as Myles Garrett is concerned. Watson’s right leg buckled as he stepped forward after taking the snap in shotgun formation on a second-and-6 play from the Bengals’ 21 with 1:26 to play and the Browns trailing, 7-0. There was no contact to Watson during the play. Watson immediately went to one knee. He dropped the ball, but officials ruled he gave himself up by taking a knee so it was not a fumble. Team trainers and doctors rushed to the field and quickly called for a cart to remove Watson. Players from both teams gathered around as Watson was loaded onto the cart. Fans at the stadium booed Watson when he was introduced. Some of them booed and some cheered Watson being injured and chanted “DTR! DTR!” as Watson was being carted to the locker room for X-rays. “Deshaun has an Achilles injury,” Coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game. “Let’s get the test to confirm, but that (season ending) is what it looks like.” The fact the Browns lost four straight games and were losing, 7-0, when Watson was injured did not help the crowd’s mood. The streak is now five games for the 1-6 Browns after losing to the Bengals, 21-14, with the Ravens next on the schedule Garrett was the last player to pat Watson on the back before the cart left the field. Naturally, he said it was difficult seeing a player injured. “It was harder to see the reaction the fans gave,” Garrett said. “Whether an opponent goes down or one of our own, we don’t boo guys being hurt, especially when the cart comes out. We should be ashamed of ourselves as Browns and fans to boo anyone and their downfall — a season-altering, career-altering injury. “The man’s not perfect. He doesn’t need to be. None if us are. You can’t judge him for what he does off the field or on the field. I can’t throw stones at my glass house.” Watson was accused by more than two-dozen massage therapists of sexual misconduct while he was with the Houston Texans in 2020 and 2021. The Browns acquired him from Houston in March of 2022 for six draft picks, three of them first-round picks, and gave him a five-year fully guaranteed $230 million contract. Last month another woman in Houston accused Watson of sexual misconduct on a date in 2020. The NFL is in the process of investigating that allegation. Other teammates of Watson had the same reaction in the locker room when asked about the crowd reaction. “That’s (bleep),’ cornerback Greg Newsome said. “I noticed it right away. No matter what you feel about a player, performance-wise or not, you don’t boo a guy that’s down, that can’t get up by himself.” Stefanski did not come on as strong as Garrett or Newsome, but he also was disappointed about the fans’ reaction. “I don’t think it’s ever OK to cheer when someone gets injured,” Stefanski said. “I’m sure not every person in the building was doing that, but that was disappointing.” Dorian Thompson-Robinson took over at quarterback against the Bengals because Jameis Winston was designated the third quarterback for the first time this season. DTR put two touchdowns on the board,  but he threw two interceptions and completed only 11 of 24 passes. Watson completed 15 of 17 passes for 128 yards without a touchdown pass or interception before being injured. If Watson is indeed done for the year, he will finish his third season having completed 137 of 216 passes for 1,148 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Watson, 29 years old, started six games for the Browns in 2022, six last year and seven this season. He is 9-10 as a Browns starter.
