Photo by Stephen Maturen/Getty Images Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery suffered a knee injury and is questionable to return. It was an awful start for the Detroit Lions against the MInnesota Vikings, and it only got worse for them early in the first quarter. After falling behind 10-0, the Lions attempted to convert a third-and-1 with running back David Montgomery. Not only did Montgomery come up short, but he was injured on the play. Eventually, Montgomery was helped off the field, but could not put much pressure on his leg. UPDATE: The Lions have ruled Montgomery questionable to return with a knee injury. While we don’t have an update on Montgomery’s injury yet, it would be a devastating blow to Detroit’s offense. Just last week, the Lions signed Montgomery to a two-year extension, knowing that he was a key piece to their offensive identity. “He’s too much like us. He’s too much a part of us,” Campbell said this week. “He’s everything we’re looking for. And we’re not going to just let that guy leave. So, I’m glad he’s here to stay.” Through five games, Montgomery has 351 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, averaging a career-high 4.7 yards per carry. If Montgomery cannot return, the Lions will have to rely heavily upon second-year running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The Lions also have Craig Reynolds and rookie Sione Vaki active. We’ll update this post when there’s an update from the team. UPDATE 2: Per Nolan Bianchi, Montgomery is out of the blue medical tent and working on an exercise bike. David Montgomery out of the medical tent and is hopping on the exercise bike. Looks like he won't be back for this series, but definitely a positive sign.— Nolan Bianchi (@nolanbianchi) October 20, 2024 UPDATE 3: After sitting out a drive, Montgomery returned to the game.
