I lived in Summit County for 30 something years, I have many friends there and I keep up with the politics. So when I read a letter to the editor from Catherine Hoffman promoting Trump, I realized that I needed to speak out. Hoffman (if that is a real person) moans about FEMA money being used for “illegal aliens” and that FEMA is out of money for hurricanes. Neither one of those things are true and Parkites know that. I think we are all tired of Trump’s lies and gaslighting. I looked for Catherine through my data base and could not find a thing about that person living in Park City, or Summit County, for that matter. But let’s assume it is a real person. Instead of posting actual opinions and facts, Trump supporters have to make things up to support their ill-conceived stories. I suppose they feel they have to. I also hope there is a mechanism to vet these letters based on misinformation, but I also understand free speech. I know my Park City friends are far too intelligent, so I will spare the quotes and the obvious. Conspiracy theories about FEMA were so bad that the agency had to set up a website hoping that people were smart enough to see through the lies. FEMA workers have been threatened all because Trump wants power. In terms of those “illegal aliens,” the Utah economy in a large part runs on the backs of their labor. Sorry if it doesn’t fit a hateful narrative for Trump supporters, but it is true. If businesses allow “mass deportations” in Utah (and the rest of the United States) the economic impact would be disastrous. Communities like Park City has lived with the dirty little lie regarding undocumented workers for decades, and it’s time to stop. I will go toe to toe with anyone on this. I have spent decades working on it and advocating for immigration reform. The rest of the community needs to as well. As for Catherine, I hope that person’s address was vetted; one would hope so.Shelley VebberSouth JordanThe post Tired of their lies appeared first on Park Record.
