MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) - Families can look forward to a fun-filled day at the 37th Annual Town of Mount Pleasant Children’s Day Festival, happening Sunday, Oct. 20, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Park West Recreation Complex. The event will feature live entertainment, giant inflatables, games, rides, face painting, pony rides, prizes, and a petting zoo. Admission and all activities are free, with complimentary parking available next door at the schools on Thomas Cario Blvd. Free shuttles will run throughout the event, making it easy for families to get to the festivities. “Children’s Day offers families the perfect opportunity to get outside and celebrate the arrival of our beautiful fall weather,” said Nicole Harvey, Community Affairs and Marketing Division Chief for the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department. “Sponsors, schools, and nonprofits offer old-fashioned carnival games alongside carnival rides, with delicious food sold by local vendors.” The event will also feature special performances from local dance and gymnastics academies, karate schools, and cheerleading squads. Entertainment highlights include musical performances, unicyclist and juggler Mark Lippard, and Rick Hubbard, the King of Kazoo. Popular attractions returning this year include Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ annual obstacle course, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department’s fire trucks, Public Services heavy equipment, and the Mount Pleasant Police Department's community outreach team. Festival-goers can also stop by the PLAN Take Root tent for a free tree. “We could never do an event like this without the support of our sponsors, whose participation is essential in offering this free family festival,” said Harvey. “Of course, we are also grateful for the numerous children, parents, volunteers, and vendors whose contributions make this event such a fall favorite for our community.” For the safety of all attendees, animals, bicycles, and skateboards are not permitted. Food and concessions will be available from local vendors and food trucks.
