CENTRAL NEW YORK – Of all the times the Fayetteville-Manlius field hockey team had to catch Cicero-North Syracuse, this may have proved the worst. The Hornets met the Northstars Tuesday night at Bragman Stadium and C-NS, wanting no part of a three-game skid, rolled past F-M by a score of 6-0. Little changed from the 5-1 C-NS win of three weeks earlier except the venue and the fact that the Northstars were bent on finding its winning form in the wake of consecutive losses to the other Class A front-runners, Rome Free Academy and Liverpool. Attacking all night, C-NS saw Nicole Conklin and Addie Esce both convert twice, with single goals going to Isabel Normanly and Carleigh Colvin. Normanly also picked up two assists to equal teammate Paige Pangaro. Rebounding from this, F-M would host Cazenovia on Friday and, despite the Lakers’ rapid improvement throughout the season, it could not overcome a torrid Hornets start which led to a 4-0 victory. In the first 15 minutes alone F-M built a 3-0 margin and added another goal before halftime, the charge led by Carlye Bryant, who netted her 21st and 22nd goals of the season. Helping out, Francesca Burke and Isa Crain also scored, with Audrey Burke and Sidney Mott adding assists. Only the great work of Cazenovia goale Rae Western earning 14 saves kept it from getting more lopsided. A day later, against Pittsford from Section V F-M took a 5-2 loss, ultimately dropping its regular-season mark to 6-9-1. East Syracuse Minoa had its own meeting with Liverpool Tuesday and lost to the Warriors 2-0, strong on the defensive side yet not able to keep everything out of the net. Riley Moyer led the way, netting both of the Warriors’ goals as Sophia Puccia got credit for an assist. Later, on Friday night ESM was able to play Homer to a 1-1 tie. Lydia Butterfield got the Spartans’ lone goal, countered by Ava Armstrong for the Trojans as neither side could break the deadlock in the late going.
